Alicia's House provides Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) across Queensland and New South Wales. Alicia's House has been named in memory of the founder's late sister, Alicia Belling.
A person's home can improve their quality of life, independence, and connection to the community.
People who are living with disability should have the opportunity to live in modern, quality, specialist homes that are in central locations. Alicia's Houses are designed and finished to exceed the highest NDIS standards and are located close to healthcare, transport, lifestyle and general amenity.
When creating a new home, the first and most important test that must be passed is, would we be proud if this was Alicia’s house?
Alicia was born in a country hospital on the 1st of June 1983. At six months of age, she was diagnosed with “profound/severe developmental delay” with eyesight and hearing issues. At 18 months, Alicia contracted Meningitis and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
After an afternoon at the local pool, she developed a fever and became ill. She was rushed to Tamworth Base Hospital in regional New South Wales for further assessment. Within 6 hours, she developed Sepsis and passed away. Alicia was two years and six months old.
The start of Alicia’s journey is one that many families experience. Throughout her short life, she was in a loving, caring environment with access to the required health care and support.
Had Alicia grown to adulthood, she would have needed a home to call her own. She would have needed a home close to family, friends, and support.
For those who reach adulthood, their living environment is critical to giving them independence and quality of life.
This is the essence of what makes Alicia’s House special. Thoughtful design, central locations, and proximity to support give independence to participants.
